This week is National Farmers’ Market Week. Here is a blog to go this week.
Let your SNAP (Food Stamps) go further?
SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), formerly called Food Stamps offers nutrition assistance to millions of eligible, low-income individuals and families and provide economic benefits to communities.
Even with this extra help, it can be hard to get fresh fruits and vegetables but there is a program to help. Its called Double Up Food Bucks.
Double Up Food Bucks helps you to get more fruits and vegetables when you spend your SNAP EBT Card dollars at participating farmer’s markets, farm stands, mobile markets, and grocery stores
How the program works:
Find the nearest local market that accepts Double Up Food Bucks.
Look for the market information table.
Use your EBT card to buy EBT-eligible food.
For every $1 you spend with your SNAP EBT, you get another $1 to spend.
In Las Vegas there are two locations that do the Double Up Bucks:
Tri-County Farmers’ Market on 6th and University
Tierra Encanta on Hot Springs and Mills
Go to these locations on Wednesdays and Saturdays to use your Double Up Bucks.
Help support local farmers by using your Double Up Bucks.
