George Francis Lyon is a self-published author of the Light House Guidebook, a comprehensive guide to operating group living environments for persons with disabilities.  He earned his Bachelors degree in English, with an emphasis in print journalism from Adams State University, and a Masters in interdisciplinary studies from the University of Texas at El Paso.  He also holds a second Masters in Public Administration with honors from Walden University.  He is currently completing a doctoral degree in Law, public policy, and administration. His dissertation topic is An Investigation of the Readability of Higher Education Collective Bargaining Agreements Using Social Exchange Theory.

Lyon has 12 years of college and university teaching experiences and 22 years of volunteer public education on topics of homelessness, introductory criminal and constitutional law, public administration, American and State Government, and mental health courses. Research interests include mental health and addictions, curriculum design in higher education, clear writing in public policy, and public administration.

His volunteer experiences include service with the American Red Cross, Teen Challenge, El Paso Mountain Rescue, Welfare Advocates of Colorado, Colorado Legal Aid and NAMI El Paso / New Mexico. He also served as a Reserve Officer with Bernalillo County Sheriff Department. He is currently the Executive Director of The Samaritan House, Inc in Las Vegas NM.  Samaritan House provides emergency shelter, homeless prevention, and food to those in need.

Lyon is currently a NAMI Family-to-Family Instructor and has completed the NAMI Advocate, and Basic courses on mental health.  He has also completed the Master Trainer Mental Health Facilitator course through the World Health Organization. A seasoned leader, advocate, and educator, George holds graduate credentials from the City of El Paso Leadership Academy and El Paso Community College Teachership Academy. He has also completed Advanced Mediation training through New Mexico Risk Management Division, Alternative Dispute and Resolution (ADR).
